The Arrowhead Soapfish
The Arrowhead Soapfish (Belonoperca Chabanaudi) is often spotted in the shadowy crevices of the steep walls around Bunaken. This solitary fish typically hovers upside down in the shade, patiently waiting for dusk. It hunts small fish and shrimp exclusively under the cover of darkness. Like other members of the soapfish family (Serranidae), it can release a toxin called grammistine through its skin when threatened.
